Adoption of the internal system of the Syrian Constitutional Committee headed by “Al-Bahra”

The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, said in the first session of the committee’s work: “We stand before a historic moment and actively discuss the most important issues of Syrian society, as members of the Constitutional Committee meet today based on the principles of Syrian sovereignty and respect for United Nations charters,” Pointing out that constitutional reform in Syria is a step capable of modifying the political and social situation in the country.

The UN envoy added: “The constitution will help lay new foundations for coexistence in Syria, and the Constitutional Committee is authorized to write a draft of the constitutional amendment and submit it to a popular referendum.”

Pederson addressed the attendees, saying: “You Syrians, members of the committee, will draw up the draft and the Syrian people will approve it. Facilitating the work of the Constitution Debate Committee.”
