The first session of the meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee was characterized by seriousness, and concluded its work in the Swiss city of Geneva, on Friday, under the auspices of the United Nations.
The convening of the committee comes in implementation of one of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (of 2015), as it is a gateway to the political transition in Syria, by drafting a new constitution, and ensuring a safe and impartial environment for holding a referendum on a draft constitution, and holding parliamentary and presidential elections, based on on a new constitution.
It is remarkable in this tour (it started on October 30 last) that all parties accepted the invitation sent by the UN envoy, Geir Pedersen, which states that Syria needs a comprehensive and modern constitutional reform that meets the aspirations and aspirations of the Syrian people in A civil, democratic, pluralistic state on the one hand, and engagement with Pedersen in the work of the committee and ensuring the success of its work on the other hand, as well as international interaction and pressure after a lull of years on a third hand.
