Officially announcing the start of the work of the Constitutional Committee, and Pedersen considers it a first step to end the Syrian crisis
The Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said that the launch of the Syrian Constitutional Committee “can and should be the first serious step to find a way out of the Syrian crisis and reach a lasting solution in line with Security Council Resolution 2254.”
In his opening speech during the launch of the work of the Constitutional Committee, which is credible, balanced and inclusive, led and owned by Syria and facilitated by the United Nations in Geneva, today, Wednesday, Pedersen stressed However, the solution must meet the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people and be based on a strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the country. Added:
“We are facing a historic moment, as this is the first time that 50 representatives from the government and 50 representatives from the opposition sit face to face, and two co-chairs are also sitting side by side to work as members of the Constitutional Committee to accomplish the great task of creating constitutional arrangements New Syria, which opens the way for a new opportunity for Syria.”
