Pedersen: The Syrian Constitutional Committee will meet in Geneva on October 30

In an interview with Pedersen about his mission and the work of the Constitutional Committee, the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said today, Thursday (October 24, 2019), that the committee’s meetings will start on the 30th of this month. Pedersen revealed that delegates from seven Western and Arab countries supporting the opposition, known as the “small group”, and including the United States, will meet in Geneva on Friday.

Pederson added that senior officials from Russia, Iran and Turkey, the group known as the Astana Trio, are also expected to arrive, but he is still waiting for confirmation. However, Pedersen stressed that these forces will not participate directly in the constitutional endeavors that are “owned and led by Syrians”; Nor will she participate in the public opening ceremonies.
