The delegations of the Constitutional Committee have arrived in Geneva
The three delegations of the Constitutional Committee arrived in Geneva today to hold the first meeting of the Committee, which will start next Wednesday, with the participation of 150 members. Discussions will start on Friday, after which there will be a small committee of 45 members, 15 for each party, the regime, the opposition and civil society.
The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria Geir Pedersen indicated, earlier today, that the work of the Committee is based on basic principles, which include respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and Security Council resolutions.< /strong>
The regime’s delegation had announced that it would be late in arriving next Thursday on the pretext that there were no flight reservations from Beirut International Airport, but Russia took care of transporting the delegation in addition to the civil society delegation residing in Syria. /p>
