Bogdanov discusses preparations for the meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee with Pedersen
The Special Envoy of the Russian President to the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, discussed with the UN envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen preparations for the meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee.
A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry stated, following the phone call between Bogdanov and Pedersen today, Friday, that “opinions were exchanged on issues of preparation for the sixth round of meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva.”
The statement added that the two sides also discussed issues relating to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 on Syria, “with emphasis on the need for joint efforts of the international community with the aim of rebuilding Syria after the war as quickly as possible and ensuring conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.”
The UN envoy visited Moscow and Damascus last month, where he discussed with Russian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Syrian Faisal Miqdad the implementation of Resolution 2254 and the work of the Constitutional Committee.
